Little Big Man!

"God Bless America", "what kinda Indian would say that"?!!!

Jack Crabb, looking back from extreme old age, tells his life being raised by Native Americans, and serving with general George Custer. In 1970, the movie Little Big Man came out, with Dustin Hoffman portraying Jack Crabb.

I am bi-racial Dineh', and Besh' Bii Chaii" (1/2 Navajo & 1/2 hard metal hat - German), English is my second language, Spanish my 3rd & 1/2 baked Korean. I partially grew on the reservation, and attended its Indian boarding school system. Later in my childhood, God blessed me with a wonderful mother, and father, who ran a very successful trusted mercantile business, Chevron, mini lodging rooms, a café, and a trading posts on the reservation.

I was exposed to the old tradition culture from my Dineh' grandparents, but was adopted by my mom & dad (white people, or as my dad use to say, a Cherokee Indian with blue eyes). I have lived through, and seen through the eyes of both races, a young Navajo boy with very blond hair with brown eyes, naturally sticks out like a big sore thumb, in both world, the white world, and the Dineh' way of life. I can honestly say, the first form of transportation I learned to operate, was an old red spoked wheel wagon pulled by a blue tick mule, and palomino mare (an odd couple).

To make a long story (biography) short, I've lived with the stigma of us being nothing but a drunken, dumb bunch of lazy Indians from non-Indians, and the opposite, from my Dineh' side. It was one of the hardest stigma I've had to navigate through during my young pre-teen life, but by the grace of God I persevered, and He blessed me with an awesome mother, father, and wonderful older sisters (court ordered adoption). The best advice I got from my dad was, Never forget my first language & culture, and second, take what is best of both worlds, and apply to your everyday life.

You see, my kind we're supposed to be confined to a desert rocky reservation, be uneducated, and rely on the Big Boss Indian Around. As such, we were told to always vote democrat, it equated to the familiarity that a donkey is a hard worker, and an elephant was an aloof foreign creature. SURPRISE', I didn't fall for that shtick! As a, supposed minority, used to being constantly oppressed (supposedly), I completely understand, what Paul is talking about. Being informed, and deciphering analytical observation is how we don't get caught off guard, and we have had the biggest intelligence dump civilians have ever received.

So, there are far more minorities who understand completely what is going on, we didn't allow oppression of the left, and democrats define our lives. Like many, we served our country, I am the proud nephew of two Dineh' Wind Talkers (Navajo Code Talkers) who served in the Pacific theater during WWII (they've passed on to the next life - one received the gold medal & the other, the silver medal). We are all Americans, we all are equal under our US Constitution, and we (I), believe in self-determination. I f I want a better life for myself, my wife, and children, it is up to me to make it happen. NBK Mil/LEO Analyst Retired
